The participants are able to solve tasks in the field of electrical engineering and information technology in a small team and to document the results in an engineering-scientific way. They can use methods of structured analysis in a targeted manner, for example to find and eliminate errors in a self-designed measuring circuit or its realization. They are able to carry out electrotechnical experiments in compliance with safety regulations.
The basic practical course teaches the implementation of contents of the modules 'General Electrical Engineering 1 & 2', 'Systems Theory 1' and 'Physics' into practice. In an introductory experiment, the students become familiar with basic electrical measurement equipment, in particular the oscilloscope, which can be used to visualize the time functions of electrical voltages. In further experiments, they measure DC and AC circuits, electric and magnetic fields and electric flux fields. They study the properties of real transformers, design and measure simple electrical filters. They make experiments on signal sampling and quantization and investigate methods of signal coding and transmission by working on PCs. These nine experiments in the frame of electrical engineering and information technology are supplemented by three physical experiments on the topic of the lecture 'Experimental Physics'. The students receive documents that introduce them to the topic of the experiments and specify the tasks. Each experiment starts with a preliminary talk with the responsible instructor, in which the underlying theory and measurement tasks are discussed. During the actual experimental procedure, they set up measuring circuits and carry out the necessary measurements. The results are logged in a suitable form. On the basis of these protocols, they prepare written evaluations including a brief description of the experiment as well as a reproduction of the measurement results and a final conclusion. The reports are reviewed and may need to be corrected in order to successfully pass the course.

This practical course is conducted in the 3rd semester. Earlier participation is not possible.
For participation in the practical course, it is necessary to register via Flexnow and via Moodle in the period from 01.09.2020 to 09.10.2020. (Moodle course ‘Bachelor basic practical course ETIT ', password: BAPWS1920). The practical course is conducted in groups of two, with six pairs performing the same experiment in parallel. In the Moodle course there is the opportunity to register individually or with a specific partner. At the beginning of the practical course, each participant will be informed about the final grouping via News forum.
